Indoor plants can bring life to a dull space with vibrant colors--but you knew that. What you don’t know are the best tips to decorate with indoor plants.

Try these out:

1)   Mix It Up

It’s always a good idea to mix and match plants around the house. You can have plant corners with tall, medium-heighted, and small plants. Potted plants on shelves can complement a tall Norfolk Island pine in the corner. The Instagram-trendy Monsteradeliciosa can work well in with potted plants or on its own.

Varying varieties of plants can go well with each other. You can get more traditional species like Dracaena, Spider plants, Ficus, and Lady Palm.

Mix these with citrus plants, vines, and succulents around your living room. Hanging baskets of ferns and orchids over kitchen islands or tables can make a great statement.

2)   Pick a Container

Plants are nothing without their containers. An ornamental planter can be just as beautiful a statement piece as a carpet. So choose your container widely and weigh your options.

Among these options are boxes, racks, shelves, pots, and wall-mounted pots. Jars and boxes can be placed around the room and near windows. If you go for racks or wall-mounts, consider grouping multiple plants together in pots and planters.

Clustering on racks can bring more life to the space. However, if you are grouping plants, make sure to group them in odd numbers for greater effect.

3)   Keep Them Healthy

There are three crucial things plants need to survive: nutrients, light, and water. Make sure to water them as required. Each plant has its own needs but usually indoor plants only need to be watered every one to three weeks. Make sure to also keep plants in well-lit rooms.

If you see staggered growth or yellowing leaves in your plants, they need nutrients like nitrogen or potassium.

You can have hundreds of plants around your house but not one will look great if they don’t receive proper care. Take stock of these tips and your plants will thrive and liven up any space in your house.
