As we settle into 2025, it’s the perfect time to get organized. Whether you're working from an office or at home, having a thoughtfully decorated workspace can make all the difference in your productivity and mood. Here are some interior designer-approved tips to help you create an office that’s not only functional but also stylish!
Choose the Right Desk
Your desk is the centerpiece of your office, so you should enjoy working at it. Here are some questions to ask yourself when looking at the many options out there:
Does it fit your space?
Is it comfortable and ergonomic?
Is it stylish?
Does it have built-in storage?
Does it have a standing functionality?
Whether your space is large or small, there is a desk out there to suit your needs. Even a sleek and simple desk, like the one we used in this project, will do the trick!
Use Vertical Wall Space
If you don’t have space for storage units, we recommend taking advantage of vertical space. Using your walls for storage and decor is a smart way to save floor space without sacrificing a clean look. For example, a floating bookshelf, like the ones we installed in this project is a great place to house books, documents, decorative items, a calendar, and houseplants. It’s a modern and practical solution that keeps things tidy and adds character to the room.
Keep Your Desk Decor Simple
We find that a minimalist approach to decorating your desk helps reduce distractions. Keep only the essentials out: your computer, a notebook, a cup of coffee, etc. Where possible, file everything else away. Having decor on the desk may look nice, but it can easily be distracting. Instead, save the decor for your walls and the rest of the office!
Place Your Desk By a Window
A beautiful view can do wonders for both your mood and productivity while you’re working. If possible, place your desk near a window so that you can take advantage of the natural light and views. If you don’t have access to a window, we recommend adding plants and warm lighting to mimic a natural atmosphere.
Add Bright Pops of Color
We love to see color in an office, especially because so many are bland! Just because you are doing serious work doesn’t mean your office needs to look so serious. A statement blue or green wall can add a sense of refreshment and a dose of style to your space. Or, choose a colorful office chair or desk that sparks joy every time you see it.
Once you tailor these tips to your work habits, you’ll be ready to move into spring with a fresh perspective! Remember that your office should feel like an extension of you, as should your home.
